Bachelor's Final Project
This page is an overview of my final project for my Bachelors in Music Production program at Full Sail University. It includes two tracks, the production approach, and the creative decisions behind the two pieces.
Project Overview
For my final project, I produced two tracks to library specifications provided by Primary, a music library that specializes in film, TV, and advertising catalogues. This work demonstrates my ability to deliver a finished production ready for media placement using library provided specs.
These two pieces highlights layered instruments, transitions between sections, and a careful mix to support the emotional arc. It also includes final mastering touches to ensure clarity and impact on a broad range of playback systems.
About the Project
Specifications: Tracks would need to have a fundamental aspect to them, creating a core theme, evolving and building from there. Simplicity does not mean it cannot have depth and power. Focus on producing tracks focusing on one of four key TV emotions: Happy, Sad, Tension, or Neutral. Tracks should be 2-3 minutes. No fade outs. There needs to be an ending. Create tracks that can easily be translated into those shorter versions.
“I’d stress that in library at least, that you need to think like an editor. Most of the music sent to me doesn’t have a cohesive foundation and then goes on too many tangents. A track should be rooted in a simple, hopefully catchy idea, and can then build from that. If it works in its simple form, then you’re on to something. Don’t deviate from what the track is about. I think if they really listened to some ads they would get this concept. And what is very important is an ending that resolves, so that anyone making a 30 sec edit, or any length for that matter, can do so easily. It’s simply not useful without a resolving ending.”

Track: Crossing Over
Composition: Ryleah Mae
Track Length: 2:34
Process & Thoughts: I wanted to focus on having a very simple melody and arrangement while creating as much depth as possible, as per the specifications of the track. I'm happy with this piece overall. Like my other work that I did for this project and school as a whole, I'm planning on continuing to work on this piece after school. For this piece I really want to work more on the master as well as automation.
Track: Waves from Afar
Composition: Ryleah Mae
Track Length: 2:56
Process & Thoughts: Lately, most of my music has been somber and in minor keys. To break this habit, my professor suggested composing based on visual inspiration. For this piece, I wrote to a vibrant artwork of a seaside cottage surrounded by flowers, which helped me capture a completely different mood. While I’m happy with the track, there are always elements I'd like to change, so I plan to remix and remaster it to better fit my vision.
